Herberts Quarry is a training ground for university students in geological mapping and research on alkaline pollution effects in Devonian and Carboniferous rocks.Cribarth, a striking ridge in the Swansea Valley, contains nationally and internationally important sedimentary and tectonic records of the Variscan Orogeny.Garn Goch and Pen-y-Crug are Iron Age hillforts linked to the Celtic Silures tribe, whose name inspired the Silurian period in geological history.
